Set Export Type

By default, the export type is set to Hreflang XML sitemaps, which outputs individual hreflang XML sitemaps for each market site. If that is your expectation, no further action is required. We believe this is the best output.

Some users with smaller sites or security challenges require a single hreflang XML sitemap. as well as the option for standard hreflang XML sitemaps. This is a good option when your CMS-generated XML sitemaps are not as reliable as you need them to be. As Hreflang Builder can aggregate and validate URls in a 200 indexable output, users will often use this for their site search functionality.

Review the different export types and decide if one may be a better option for your needs. If you wish to have both auto-generated, please let us know, as we can set that in system. We will soon offer this option in the edit interface.

Hreflang XML Sitemaps – One for Each Language/Country

This is the default option. With this option, the system will create multiple hreflang XML sitemaps with one for each language/market set in the system.

Hreflang XML Sitemap – Sitemap with all Language/Countries in Single File

With this option, the system will create a single hreflang XML sitemap. If you have too many URLs, it will automatically split them into additional files and create an index XML sitemap listing them. This option is designed for smaller sites or those with a challenge with having multiple sitemaps loaded to their servers.

Simple Sitemaps – Standard XML Sitemap one for each language/country

With this option, the system will create multiple standard XML sitemaps, with one for each language/market set in the system. Note, this option WILL NOT have any hreflang notations or alternate URLs listed. You do have the option of setting the priority and last update. Please review our standard XML sitemap documentation.

Both Sitemaps – Both Sitemap formats one for each language/country

With this option, the system will create BOTH multiple hreflang XML sitemaps with one XML for each language/market set in the system and also standard XML sitemaps. They will both have unique names as you can edit in the sitemap naming section.

With this option, the system will create BOTH a single hreflang XML sitemap and a single standard XML sitemap. If you have too many URLs, it will automatically split them into additional files and create an index XML sitemap listing them.
