Setting X-Default Language

The X-Default is designed to tell Search Engines which version of the site to show to searchers when there is not a dedicated language or market site. For more information on using the X-Default please review our Complete Guide to Using X-Default.

There are currently three different scenarios for setting an X-Default and this guide will show you how to set it in each case.

Setting the X-Default for New Site

If you are just setting up your project or if you are adding a new site into the project that you wish to set as X-Default you will follow these steps.

Step 1 – Add the source file for the new site using the Add a New Country to your project process.

Step 2 – Once imported, select the new country or language site that you want to set to X-default and click the “Edit File” option for that entry

Step 3 – In the Country Language Selector, click the pull-down and select the X-Default option

Step 4 – If the site uses a folder structure for country or language you need to add that syntax so we know what to match.

Step 5 –  Click the Blue up or down arrows to go to the top or bottom of the page and click update.

Converting Existing Site to X-Default
